CHILE HOUSE

In rural Chile a swath of farmland meanders between two ponds, and a cleared meadow slices a path therein.  Two quiet buildings anchor the artist retreat along the negative space.  At once heavy, they are also porous, opening up onto the hidden sanctuary and encouraging maximum immersion into the land.  Board form concrete and wood plank doors mimic the verticality of the agricultural rows and speak of humble, simple living.  Conversely, large sliding glass doors and darkly polished concrete act as mirrors, reflecting the crops on the building and the artist on the land, and hint at a more spiritual existence.
