"Firnature" was inspired by a coffee date on a bright blue chaise at Charles Moore's Sea Ranch Condominium One, Unit 9.  Lounging on the expanse of cushion with a view of the Pacific, we dreamed of those with whom we'd love to share the space.  Soon the question became, "How many people could we sleep on this couch? But wait, is this a couch or a bed?"  We then reflected on the genius of furniture that is ambiguous in function, beautiful and timeless in its flexibility.  Marrying this Northern Californian ethos with our constant belief that good design should be accessible and affordable for everyone, we conceptualized a suite constructed of readily available douglas fir framing lumber.  We drew on the raw simplicity of Donald Judd's work at The Block and created minimal rugged designs that anyone with only a miter saw and a drill could assemble in a single day; no jointers, planers, glue, or sealer required.  We recommend covering any cushions in indestructible Sunbrella fabric, if you, like us, will be serving coffee, wine, and chocolate to friends for years to come.
