SUNDAY DRIVING
New Mexico
2021.11.14
Sundays, ad infinitum

Usually when the week is done and the moon is full and soon to rise, the urge to drive seeps in. We head south, but really we could be going anywhere. We're riding nowhere. We straddle the time between the magic hour and the blue hour, watching one cool into the other. If we’re lucky, we’ll make it out of the ponderosa, past the juniper, and to the cholla fields just as moonlight takes over. And then we’ll turn around. The old girl doesn’t have a radio, but I like listening to the motor anyway. In the summer I crank the window down and listen to New Mexico.
“Two of us riding nowhere
Spending someone's hard-earned pay
You and me, Sunday driving
Not arriving, on our way back home.”
- The Beatles, Two of Us
